Hands On! Tangrams is a puzzle game aimed at children developed by Island Officials and published by Storm City Games for the Nintendo DS[1]. It was released in North America on November 24th, 2009.
Description
Hands On! Tangrams is an adaptation of Tangrams, a Chinese puzzle game that has been used in schools as a way of teaching spatial relationships[2]. The player uses seven shapes (known as "tans") to fill an outline of a shape.
Hands On! Tangrams uses the Nintendo DS' bottom touch screen to allow the player to move shapes around the board. By filling the shape at the center of the screen, an image is revealed and moves to the top background scene. There are ten levels, each with a unique theme (Zoo, Space, etc.), and ten puzzles. Once all ten puzzles are completed, the final image on the top screen is revealed.
Development
The first officially published game from Island Officials, LLC. The idea for making an original DS game based on tangram puzzles was originally conceived by studio CEO Ryan Morrison after helping his son with a school project. After using the development for We Love Cake v 1.0 as a test bed for learning Nintendo DS development, the team switched over to working on Hands On! Tangrams.
